Since 2010 there has been a lot of queer things connected with new circumstances and situations involving people, lawyers and relatives of Mukhtar Ablyazov. But we, people knowing the revengeful nature of President Nursultan Nazarbaev and self-willed mentality of his mature daughters Dariga, Dinara, Aliya, and his son-in-law Timur Kulibaev seeking satisfaction, clearly see the following.
It is clear and evident that Mukhtar Ablyazov, despite his previous experience of political standoff with Nursultan Nazarbaev’s clan, underestimated the risks, and the scale of Nazarbaev’s preparation to destroy his business and family, up to physical elimination, due to his mentally of a scientist and a businessman, and the lack of criminal mentality. The proof of the above is Ablyazovs’ lifestyle in Italy and France. Criminals don’t behave like that, and, in my opinion, Mukhtar Ablyazov was basically motivated by his wish to save and protect his business being plundered by Nazarbaev’s clan in Kazakhstan, Russia and the Ukraine.
Today democratic oriented society is disappointed, since Russia and the Ukraine, where the change of political leaders was accompanied by democratic renovation tendency, were expected not to support Nazarbaev’s pseudo corruption fighting at the political level. Otherwise, he has to fight with himself.
Geopolitical interests and economic benefits actively discussed in mass media and Internet community are either biased ordered publications favorable for the Kazakh government, or incorrect and bloated ideas about rich Kazakh resources and strategic importance of the Kazakh territory in geopolitical terms. It’s just to influence the European opinion that you should better not upset your relation with the dictator Nazarbaev.
The main politically and economically relevant idea, in my opinion, is not to support Nursultan Nazarbaev’s 25-year dictatorship regime in Kazakhstan. Kazakh resource will remain the state property, and their use shall provide for the growth in the population living standard. Over 20 years Nazarbaev’s family clan has been managing resources and important state income sources, exempting their own companies or foreign partners from taxes or establishing the minimal tax rates.
This, for over 20 years Nazarbaev has been in power, dozens of billions of US dollars have been laundered due to the washing of huge financial resources from the state budget, for instance, in the form of payment of strategic enterprises taxes. It should be noted that since late 90s Nazarbaevs’ accounts in different foreign banks have been blocked. Then the family clan approximately in 2004 appointed a number of authorized persons and started placing capital and registering property in the name of these particularly close people. These people are those who can be called Nazarbaev’s criminal clan. Then Nazarbaev’s clan, for personal security purposes after inevitable succession of power, proceeded to implementation of the following stage – elimination of people who had witnessed state property privatization by Nazarbaev’s clan.
The cruelty and sophistication of killing those who witnessed enrichment of Nazarbaev’s clan is a modern interpretation of experience accumulated by Asian conquerors in combination with violence a la NKVD during Stalin’s epoch. In this respect, after the shooting and death of the former Minister of Press А. Sarsenbaev in 2006 and former Mayor Z. Nurkadilov in 2005, the illness and premature death in 2012 of Sarybay Kalmurzaev (1949 year of birth), Chairman of the State Property Privatization Committee, preceded by strange death of his son, is not less surprising.
Many Kazakhstani have already forgotten bright, competent and charismatic Marat Ospanov (1949 year of birth) – Speaker of Parliament, and one of the first evident political competitors of Nursultan Nazarbaev, along with his premature death in 2000 surprisingly similar to the death of Sarybay Kalmurzaev.
It seems that since then N. Nazarbaev has understood that a successful operation, a natural death is a simpler way of eliminating his opponents. His opponents also learnt it, and tightened security. In 1999 the former Prime Minister А. Kazhegeldin managed to emigrate and get political protection abroad. In 2006 the former Minister of Press was shot with his guards by Nursultan Nazarbaev’s security service. It should be also noted that today among prematurely dying people there are “red” heads of major Kazakh plants captured by Nazarbaev’s clan.
Today Nursultan Nazarbaev is supported by Russia and the Ukraine in his attempts to return to Kazakhstan the Ablyazovs and Khrapunovs who escaped his lynch law for elimination. The wife and daughter of Ablyazov are already in Kazakhstan as hostages. Mukhtar Ablyazov himself is at French prison and will not be released whatever guarantees are provided, and the justice is supposedly experiences political pressure. Imprisoned, Mukhtar Ablyazov can defend neither himself, nor his wife and children, and this is what Nazarbaev’s clan aims at.
Today Nazarbaev is evidently going to surround Ablyazov and the Khrapunovs with inactivity and helplessness to gain time and using his power and money to make French and Swiss courts deliver a judgment necessary and favorable for Nursultan Nazarbaev, i.e. extradition of Mukhtar and then death of other witnesses of the clan. And it doesn’t matter what the diagnosis or the reason will be, we should prevent it.
So, I think it can’t attract international political interest. Not least because that Kazakhstan’s economy is much weaker than the Russian economy. Russia has the advantage not only in terms of resources and mineral wealth, but the incomparable superiority of human resources and productive forces. The population is incomparable, in Russia there are 142 million, and in Kazakhstan – about 16 million. As for geopolitical importance for the world – it’s a very dubious interest, since as opposed to China, Korea, Russia or the Ukraine, Kazakhstan has neither exit to the world ocean, nor nuclear weapons. During Nazarbaev’s term in office all achievements of Soviet Kazakhstan in the field of science, space and other important sectors have been lost.
Today domestic policy of the dictator Nazarbaev in the social domain has lost out to communists for the 25 years of Nursultan Abishevich’s being in power. But there are visible achievements in the field of personal communications of Nazarbaev’s clan with world political and economic oligarchy. Cultural and mass media relations are being actively developed only by Dariga Nazarbaeva – a golden voice of Kazakhstan, a deputy of parliament, and Chairman of Committee for Social and Cultural Development. And laundering of 100 million US dollars from the state budget she got as a result of illegal privatization of public television and radio property did no harm to her political career.
We all saw a series of various revolutions in the countries of the former Soviet Union, geopolitical, territorial position of which or exit to the sea (the Ukraine, Georgia), or for example, Kyrgyzstan, from this point of view, is more important, if we speak about Islamic terrorists. As for Kazakhstan, there is a risk of government participation in drug trafficking. That is why in geopolitical terms Kazakhstan is of no risk or interest for major countries. This fact and the fact that Nazarbaev’s clan which is always ready to buy off potential personal problems and is an easy game for manipulations and enrichment of international oligarchy explain the 25-year term in office of Nursultan Nazarbaev.
Kazakhstan mostly borders Russia, and historically both Russia and Kazakhstan may have geopolitical issues, and it’s a normal workflow for MFA’s of the neighboring states. The surprising fact is that today’s Russia lacks state imperial ambitions (in a good sense) and has only interests.
Is there is any risk for such an empire as Russia in terms of territory and population in the change of president of a neighboring state the citizens or which are tired of his 25-year term? There are no such risks for Russia in terms of formal cooperation; we have only to “reload” external relations with a new Kazakh government.
On the contrary, Russian could support Kazakh society and the initiative of joint fight against corruption, suggested in 2009 to the Russian government by US President Barack Obama, and offer most corrupt President Nursultan Nazarbaev to voluntarily leave the presidency in 2009.
In this regard the example of ex-President of Russia B.Eltsin who felt the mood of the Russian people and asked them for an apology inspires respect. Support of Nazarbaev being in power for so long, on the contrary, causes the wave of demonstrations and putsches in Kazakhstan like those arranged in the countries with dictatorship regimes (Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Libya, and Syria), the so called Arab Spring.
Maybe the view of anti-corruption political program implementation of Nobel laureate US President Barack Obama and the mood of Kazakh society with its ambition for clear and fair election will coincide. Today world’s society tends to think that if Russia had not interfered in the civil standoff of the Syrian people with longstanding dictatorship of Bashar Al-Asad’s family, the peaceful Syrian population would have suffered less.
In conclusion I would like to turn attention to an important aspect in Ablyazov’s case appeared after his arrest in the south of France: Russia got involved in the persecution. And the situation with the Ablyazov’s looks like a script of a political detective film and bears little resemblance to any geopolitical and economic interest of major countries.
Protecting his family and providing for personal security and security of the capital, Nursultan Nazarbaev and his clan have developed their own plan of distraction of the public attention from their crimes and laundering hundreds of millions from the country’s budget. For this purpose Nazarbaev’s clan developed and in 2009 launched the “Mukhtar Ablyazov” project. For successful implementation of this project Nazarbaev uses its personal political relations and state budget. Nazarbaev appeals to well-known politicians, figures and oligarchy involving them in his international corrupt business and inflicting harm to their political image and previously earned reputation, so to speak just buys their participation in Nazarbaev’s clan crimes.
The fact that Nursultan Nazarbaev carved his carrier from a Soviet worker to the Prime Minister in the period of communist dictatorship, and then managed not only to maintain his position but to become President of the country deserves recognition. And what happens next with the communist Nazarbaev deserves special attention. Nursultan Nazarbaev just robbed Kazakhstan (made money) and became one of the richest sitting presidents of the world.
The idea of this article is unwillingness to say well-known truths. The Europeans see no need to say that Nazarbaev is a corrupt president and his family owns huge funds. It is an admitted fact. It is more important to obtain and see the result of Declaration “Fight Against Corruption at a High Level” adopted at the Big Eight Summit in 2006 in Saint Petersburg. In this regard, corrupt Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev meets the criteria of the Declaration “Fight Against Corruption at the Highest Level” adopted by leading world nations more than other Kazakhstanis.
I, citizen of Kazakhstan, hereby ask politicians of the Big Eight countries and their civil society to hear the expectations, I guess, of the popular majority of Kazakhstan. Our nation has suffered from robbery, artificial restriction of access to credit resources, social support for 25 years of Nursultan Nazarbaev’s governance. The competitive persons have been shot in a literal sense or put in prison. Currently they are still put in prison according to mock cases.
Please, defend the civil society of Kazakhstan. Help us to stop the Nazarbaev’s massacres against political opposition. You must not allow extradition of Mukhtar Ablyazov. It is necessary to stop endless arrests of his colleagues, relatives and friends prior to making the judicial decisions.
The political motivation of current president of Kazakhstan is obvious in the case of Mukhtar Ablyazov. Since 2009 Nursultan Nazarbaev and his clan have woven a web of lies, fabled and false situations around Mukhtar Ablyazov, attacked and driven him in planned and set traps.
Failure to stop Nursultan Nazarbaev and his associates will lead to extreme impunity and moral decadence. It is as very bad example at the highest level in the eyes of society. It is some global political farcical play. The popular majority who do not agree with Nazarbaev’s regime are very disappointed that Russia supports the dictator – Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev who has ruled the country nearly for 25 years.
Our strength is in the strength of thought, strength of truth, and strength of word.
